Meditation on Wellness and Balance

Our month of Wellness is coming to a close, and we want to allow ourselves some time to sit with any decisions we have made on behalf of our own Wellness. For some of us this may be a time to come back to our word of the year and see how we are doing. If we have wandered, it might be time to try and find that balance once again.

Prior to our meditation space, let’s explore a few strategies that bring us into a sense of Wellness. Here are some ideas that recently came up at a work retreat:

  • Listening to music (pick your genre)
  • Go for a walk
  • An exercise class: water aerobics, spinning
  • A crossword puzzle, sodoku
  • Yoga
  • Cooking
  • Eating ice cream (I like this one 🙂
  • Bubble Bath
  • Get a massage
  • Painting nails, home face mask (self-care)

Meditation is such a great place to come back to balance, and to promote our own sense of Wellness. Whether we have 5 minutes or 30, taking some time to sit and be silent, to REST, to see what it is that will benefit us at this time.

Find a comfortable place to sit or lie. If you feel comfortable closing your eyes, do so. Find your resting breath and simply notice it. See if you can allow yourself the space to not change anything at this time. Part of developing a connection with our own Wellness is allowing ourselves to notice without changing and without judgement. Notice the breath flowing in and out, and see if you can find a balance in the breath. If the breath isn’t balanced, without too much effort, move towards balance in the breath. See if you can even out the inhales and the exhales. Notice the rhythm. Notice the flow. Notice how you feel with the breath and with your space.

If you decided to look back on your word of the year, perhaps that will be your mantra once you have connected with the breath and that space of stillness. Relax in a space of Wellness!
