Connections with an Open Heart

heart-wallpaperOur human hearts are meant to connect.

When cells were removed from two different human hearts and placed into Petri dishes they established their own rhythm, yet once combined, the cells connected and created a new joined rhythm.

This need to connect extends beyond the cells of the heart and permeates into all areas of our lives.

Rarely does this need become so sharply recognized as during this busy holiday season.

One way to work on this idea of connection is through the practice of meditation. For many of us, when we get rushed, both meditation, and our simple moments of connection are the first things we sacrifice.

The heart itself is a wonderful teacher here as well, always making sure to care for itself, so that it may then take care of the rest of the body.

If the heart were to divert its energy to other parts of the body first, the results would be devastating.

In a similar way, in order to maintain our ability to connect with others, we must work to maintain the openness of our own hearts.

Meditation around connection and an open heart:

  • Find your space, and get comfortable.
  • Place one or both hands over the heart.
  • Take a few minutes and feel the hands as though they were embracing the area around the heart.
  • Stay with a gentle resting breath, no need to lengthen.
  • Offer yourself the followings: you may choose one to repeat or move between them as feels right for your heart.
  • Spend as much time as you need or like, guiding your calm, warm, loving breath to the heart center!

When you open your eyes, notice how the heart center feels, and how your ability to connect feels during the day. You are SO loved and loving!
