Healing Through Ayurveda: Fall Smoothie Recipe

As we are moving steadily into the fall season, we all look for comfort, or hygge in our own way! A quick reminder of some of the things the Danes recommend in their study of Hygge, that warm sense of comfort and community:

  • Nooks! With loads of pillows 🙂
  • Wool – whether it be socks, sweaters or blankets!
  • Candles, candles, candles.
  • Community: gathering with those we love to share, food, games, stories.
  • Food!

Another way that we combine and integrate healing into our world is through our connection with Ayurveda. This sister science to yoga, is a system of holistic healing that is over 3,000 years old. When we consider Ayurveda, there is a natural flow to the seasons and to how our bodies, and our constitutions respond to the changes in the weather. The end of October is considered Vata Season, combining both the elements of spice and air.

One wonderful aspect of living in Michigan in a time of spice and air, is that we are in an AMAZING space of apples! Though Ayurveda recommends cooking apples to assist with the warming properties, we are sharing a smoothie recipe as option to transition our way into the Vata Season.

Apple Spice Smoothie:

  • 1 and a half apples (peel is up to you)
  • 1 cup of a nut beverage (dairy is felt to weigh down during this time)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Ice cubes of 1/2 a frozen banana.

Enjoy the healing properties of this light spicy smoothie. Also, in our space of healing add those ingredients that make you feel warm and light! If a stewed fruit dish is more your liking, go in that direction 🙂
