Katie Hoener, MSW, RYT-500, co-founder Verapose Yoga
Katie began practicing yoga in 2000 following a rotator cuff surgery. She soon learned that yoga was a beautifully safe space to calm the mind and look within. Katie is a licensed clinical social worker, and spends her days working in Community Mental Health, where she does her best to incorporate the teachings of yoga, as appropriate. Katie wishes to convey that yoga is for everyone, and asks students to give themselves the permission to find their truth each and every time they arrive on the mat. She enjoys all styles of yoga, though has gravitated to the ones with therapeutic outcomes and methods. Katie recently completed her RYT 500 at Sun Moon Yoga.
In her own words…
The 3 words that best describe me… Loyal, Sensitive, Stubborn.
On my playlist right now… James Brown, Jay-Z, Frank Ocean, Florence and the Machine.
I rejuvenate by… Walking my two lovely dogs, reading a book, attending yoga classes.
Lately I’m inspired by… friends, science, self-discovery.
My favorite asana… Utthita Parsvalonasana, Extended Side Angle.
I knew I wanted to be a yoga instructor when… I started yoga as a way to recover from a shoulder injury, and discovered it to be one of the only places where I was able, even for a few minutes, to quite my mind. It started a long love-affair, that I now hope to pass along to others.
My favorite quote… “One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.” Friedrich Nietzsche
“If you are always trying to be normal you will never know how amazing you can be.” Maya Angelou (I went for 2 also)
